The goal of this project is to showcase diversity. Doctors can be any of any race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, size, etc. Some doctors are parents, some are not, and some doctors have health conditions — visible or invisible — that make maintaining the stamina required to be a healthcare professional more challenging. We have one of the least diverse professions, with only 7% of veterinarians in the U.S. being racially diverse, despite the marked diversity of our clientele, as well as the variety of animals we treat. This gap exacerbates the need for diversity, equity, and inclusion work in our profession. Without diversity, our abilities are limited, and thus so is our care. If our clientele do not see themselves in our staff, they will feel less welcome, less safe, and less understood in our hospitals. I want the next generation of veterinarians to see that there are vets that look like them. Everyone can belong in vet med, and we must continue to strive to make this a reality.
